Spreading Love Featured Book
In Elaine Vickers’ and Samantha Cotterill’s newest picture book collaboration, Heartfelt, a child reminds us how simple and impactful spreading love can be. By going within their own heart, and using their senses, the child inspires readers to share love and kindness in a variety of ways. You could bake some yummy cookies (taste) for a neighbor. Or you might help someone up who has fallen (touch). You might also read someone a story (sound). With each act they do, the child leaves behind a homemade paper heart. When the child has used all their paper hearts, their world opens up to seeing all the love that continues around them.
Can you imagine finding love all around you? Can you imagine hearts being filled every day for everyone? Elaine’s words will stay with readers for a long time (the words on the last few spreads are my favorite!) and remind us that small positive actions can make all the difference in creating a safe, loving, and joyful world. I can’t get enough of this story’s message and how much, I believe, it needs to be read and shared. I also can not get enough of Samantha’s illustrations! Her amazing, colorful dioramas fill my heart! I savor every detail!
I hope this story brings you continuous love and colors your world brighter and wider! It reminds me of the saying, “What we focus on grows,” and, to me, is a love letter to the world. I hope it is shared far and wide! It is a must have for personal, public, and school libraries! It also makes a fantastic gift for Valentine’s Day and any day! Maybe you’ll gift it with your own paper hearts!
